Radio Tomorrow Morning

I will be calling into the Best In Show radio program tomorrow morning to talk about my upcoming show, todays Rock The Harbor festival, Ron Hill and Terrible Tim.

Blog The Harbor

I was so skeptical about todays music festival on Staten Island.  I wanted to support it but I'm not really the kind of guy who hangs out in the park and throws frisbees and watches bands play while laying in the gas.  Not my thing.

But I went at 1:30, planning on being home by 2:30.   7 hours later I found myself still there and not wanting to leave.  The weather was great.  The bands sounded so good with a proper system.  I was so jealous not to be a part of it.

I'm going to ask Ben Johnson, the creator, to be a guest on the show.  I think it would be great if we can show some pictures and comment on the day.  I'm sure there are some interesting backstage stories and pictures that can't make the paper.

Intro

On Saturday the guys from Paxen Films filmed the opening credits of the Talk Show.  It was 100 degrees and I was in a full suit.  Running up and down the subway and speed walking through the farmers market.

I would love to tell you guys what happened but you'll have to wait for the show.  But be sure I'll post the behind the scenes as well as the outtakes once the show starts.

Check out the newest video from Paxen Films

Monty Love Reunion!!

I've been wanting to update the weekend but haven't got around to it yet.   It's been 18 months since the 4 of us played a show together.  Apart from that I think we've only hung out twice in that time.

It's weird how natural it felt.  It was like we just practiced a few days ago.  We basically played whatever songs they yelled out.  The strangest thing was not knowing words to certain songs.  When someone yelled out "All Weapons Hot",  I remembered loving that song, but had no idea how it went

Does this mean we're back together?  Nah.  But we'll prolly play your basement for food.

ps
I wanted to post more pics but I don't really know how to do it so well on this site.

Monty Love Reunion Show Tonight

So Debo asked me if I would play his nephew's basement show.  I said yes thinking one of the other two would say no.  But they all said yes.

So in 2 hours we're playing for the first time in 18 months.  It won't be pretty but it should be a lot of fun.

I'll post pics tomorrow.

Photo Shoot

So my producer Lou and I went out today to take some press shots.  My original idea was to set up a talk show set somewhere and have an old man laughing hysterical while I had a look of disdain.  Basically it's to show my long lost battle with wanting to be taken serious while being the worlds biggest jackass.

So I put on my suit and we headed out on the town to take some shots. Our first place was at the playground at Clove Lakes Park.  We set up our bootleg desk of folding chairs and my TV tray.  We then started to ask the mothers if they would mind if we took pictures with their kids.  Well, surprising to me, nobody was interested.  I don't know what they think we're gonna do with these pictures.  We had professional business cards and all!  People were basically running away with their kids.

Their was one old man who was willing to let us use his kid.  The kid was perfect.  He was about 6 years old and soaking wet and looked like he was straight out of a Rockwell painting.  But this kid was too shy and ran away from us.  We then took the old guy and he sat with us and took some press photos.  I didn't mean to interview him for real but he had some good stories.

We then took some shots of me just sitting by myself.  It was very funny to be sitting in the middle of the playground with my TV tray in a suit.  I felt like ANTM.

We then headed over to the baseball field where I sat on the pitchers mound. I had Lou take a picture of me on my phone.

The official poster should be up by the weekend.  I'll then post some of the ones we didn't use.

I then took my suit and headed over to the building I manage and had to move a giant loveseat from one of the rooms.  I felt like such a man for actually getting it through the door.  I then was able to kick it down the stairs which I thought was going to be really cool so i grabbed my camera.  I'm now able to upload video with my new computer. I thought it was going to be cooler but I'll show it anyways.

Welcome To Mid Evenings With Jay Miller

So most of you know me through some sort of creative output that I've been a part of.  Either my radio show, my band Monty Love, my stand up comedy or my hosting of various Open Mics.  I've been on stage for a long time.

I've never felt comfortable as a singer.  I was never a good comedian because I hated telling the same jokes.  I never fully enjoyed open mic because I hated sitting though bad performances.  But the one thing I did enjoy was talking with people.  Learning about people apart from the usual "what do you do? what kind of music do you like? how's things?"  We all ask these same boring questions.

I want to know more interesting things about people.  I want to know funny stories.  We all want to hear embarrassing details.  We all want to learn real stuff about people.  Normal people with interesting anecdotes.  Interesting people with normal stories.

Combine this with me being able to be on stage and talk about things I shouldn't talk about.  It's strange how I'm an incredibly private person, yet when I get on stage I share brutally personal details.

Combine this with a fantastic cast of incredibly talented people like Lou Russo, Casey Jost, Scott Magri and many others and we have the makings of something very special.

Our first show is only 24 days away.  It seems so soon because it is.  We have so much work to do.  Films to make, guests to book, jokes to write etc.

The more I realize this is really happening the more nervous I get.

I'll post again with more info like when and where the show is.

We already have a few guests booked but I would love to hear who you think we should book.  Please give us ideas.
