Weptember

So September was a rough month for this funny man. More like not so funny. Even though I feel that everything I do is funny. Even when it's sad. It's sad to me but funny for you. Too bad only my cat was really able to see how funny it was.

For those who've been waiting to see what the show looked like, well here you go:

Love It

I just got the video yesterday and I'm cutting up some pieces.

Also working on the dates for the next shows.

But for now, as a long time hip hop head, I love this video of Pharrell getting amped remembering songs that Premo made. I'd want to do the same thing if I talked to him.

And is that Chris Brown just chillin in the background?

SORRY!!

I'm sorry it's taking so long to get video. I'm working on it. Should be another day or two.

Can't Forget...

...about James!! He's always amazing.

So I just got the video for Thursday's show. I haven't watched it yet but it was only filmed with one camera. I will upload bits of it if it looks ok but it seems like we won't be able to make it into a full episode.

Thus Thursday's show is up in the air right now. We have Snake Bite as a guest but that's it. I also want to get the camera situation in order. I'll let you guys know tomorrow if it's going to happen.

Amazing!

Last night was an unbelievable success. I can't tell you that this was the proudest I've ever felt about anything I've ever created. I'm going to put up some videos and pics from the show. I know Mike Shane took a bunch of pictures and he should be sending them any minute.

First off I really need to thank Ezra for putting in so much time and effort and making the show look and sound great. Also so many thanks but strong ones go to:

Casey
Lou
Sil

Meghan

So many great and helpful people. I'll post more later.

Time to write another show for Thursday.

The pressure is definitely on to come through.

Check out my write up in this week's AWE section. They don't just pick anyone to be in there so I'm excited.

One Week From Tonight!

So I've been frantic trying to get everything together for the show. Still booking guests for next week. The guests we have aren't famous but so far they are all super entertaining.

We also shot some super funny stuff today. I have no idea what the show will be like but I'm getting excited for it.

Oh, and Lou had this giant poster made of me in the playground. I have to put it up in Martini Red tomorrow. It's fucking gigantic. It's the size of of a movie poster.

Everyone is going to draw on my face.

I'm so embarrassed and it's not even up yet.

The End Of The Road...But First!

So today is our last day of shows with Dave Matthews. We're driving to Cuyahoga Falls, OH right now. It's raining out and I just realized that this is the first rain we've seen in 2 weeks. Apparently back in NYC we had a huge storm the other day. I am sad to have missed that. I live on a hill and love to go outside during the rain to see the river that goes down my street. Now with my new Puma Crocs I can walk in the puddles.

Dave had wanted to hang out with us tonight since it was our last night. Let's see what happens. Tomorrow is my birthday and we drive home. It's amazing that in the past 12 years that I've been touring this will be the 6th birthday that I've spent on the road. Most of the time it's me driving alone so this will be nice to be with other people. I wonder what gifts they have bought me.

Last day to relax

Almost Famous

We're on tour, in the tour bus driving to Columbus, OH, watching Almost Famous, a movie about being on tour and driving a tour bus. Pretty good stuff.

Only 2 more shows left. I'm going to try and sit one of these shows and watch the whole Dave Matthews concert. The thing is that after a full day, once Ingrid is done, I feel relieved and it's finally my chance to relax. So I sit on the bus and relax and miss the whole Dave show. Also Dave plays for 3 hours. I've never watched a band that long. I did watch his play Crash the first night. Then that "pretty baby" song also.

We have two days off now. I want to walk around the town. I want to see Step Brothers. I want to write material for the show.

Oh that's right. This blog is about the show! The show which debuts August 7th!!! 10 days!!

Can't wait.

Dinner

Good Times!

What a great time we're having on the road. DMB had a party at their hotel last night and it was pretty bad. It was really boring and everyone was just standing around. Not the rock and roll party you'd imagine. The one person we hung out with all night was Dave, who is one of the funniest guys around. He'd be the guy I'd most want to hang out with even if he was the tour janitor.

I'm sitting on the bus watching the Elite XC fights. This is the good life right now.

Bff!!

Today was a day off and re-named Dark Knight Thursday. One of the most amazing unbelievable events I've ever seen.

During the film I tried to take a picture. I didn't want to hold my phone up so I just held it in my lap and took it. This first picture had the flash go off. But the picture is fucking freaky.

I took a second one in my lap also. Check them out above!

Bus Life

So I realized I haven't written anything yet, I've only sent pics. Allow me to do a quick recap.

We flew in Friday and all seemed good. I was very nervous since I hardly ever fly. These guys fly all the time and they knew what to do. I didn;t know where to go or what to do. Luckily it made me forget I was afraid to fly. The flight was smooth and I was good. I can't even remember what I did that night. Oh shit, did I already post about that night? Fuck I totally did. Download the new Ne-Yo. I posted it there.

Saturday we went to the festival and I had really had no interest. I hate festivals. They are crowded and hot. Unlike any other festival I've played this one was so well put together. We had people picking us up in golf carts and driving around the festival. Free massages, jumbo shrimp, shirts, hot wings..etc. I wasn't excited to watch any of the bands but then I saw that Lupe was playing and was way too excited. He was fucking DOPE!

FUCK!KK

im so tired.

i cant remember anything.

i have to sleep.

Mile High

So we flew into Denver and all was good. We're at the DoubleTree which is famous for having free warm cookies anytime you want.

I think it's amazing that I can take a picture on my phone and instantly post them. I will be taking a bunch and blogging them as quick as I can.

Tomorrow is the first day of the Mile High Festival. The band is pretty excited about it but I felt like my dad while looking at the lineup. I didn't recognize any of the bands. Sure there is Tom Petty, John Mayer, Black Crowes and Dave Matthews but I have no interest in any of them. The only person I'd really like to see is Lupe. Also, the Roots are playing. But I've been to enough festivals to know that I don't want to be there to watch anyone. I'd rather be home to watch the UFC Fight Night but the hotel doesn't have Spike. What kind of of BS is this!?

I really want to go see Batman. I think we're going to go sometime during the week.

Ok...I'm nervous cause I feel like I should be working on something that I'm not.

Oh, not surprising but I just heard the new Ne-Yo single and I'm in love!

Go download it:

Casey And Me

So I hung out with Casey and we tried to come up with a theme song to the show.

Monday, July 7, 2008

So I haven't posted in a long time but not because I'm lazy but because I've been kinda annoyed with the show. I've also been busy with the tour that I'm leaving on in 2 weeks.

The show was supposed to debut on June 3rd. When we learned that Casey was going away on tour for 3 weeks we decided to wait till he got back. Then June 26th was the new start date. As the date was approaching we still didn't have much prepared so we then moved it back to July 3rd so I would have the week off of school. The Lou got married and took a job in New Mexico and was going to be gone for a few weeks. I thought we could do the show without him but he really didn't want us to. He gets back on July 17th. i leave for tour on July 18th and don't get back till the 31st. This leaves us with out new debut date of August 7th.

We'll do four shows in August and see where that takes us.

You'd think with all this time we'd have more done but with everything I do I don't really prepare until it's last minute. So I'm sure when I get back from tour I'll work like crazy to get some good material together.

Here's the promo pic that we took that I think is pretty great:

Casey and me hung out tonight and filmed a bunch of stuff. I'm going to try and figure out iMovie now and try and edit my first piece!!

Radio Tomorrow Morning

I will be calling into the Best In Show radio program tomorrow morning to talk about my upcoming show, todays Rock The Harbor festival, Ron Hill and Terrible Tim.

Blog The Harbor

I was so skeptical about todays music festival on Staten Island.  I wanted to support it but I'm not really the kind of guy who hangs out in the park and throws frisbees and watches bands play while laying in the gas.  Not my thing.

But I went at 1:30, planning on being home by 2:30.   7 hours later I found myself still there and not wanting to leave.  The weather was great.  The bands sounded so good with a proper system.  I was so jealous not to be a part of it.

I'm going to ask Ben Johnson, the creator, to be a guest on the show.  I think it would be great if we can show some pictures and comment on the day.  I'm sure there are some interesting backstage stories and pictures that can't make the paper.

Intro

On Saturday the guys from Paxen Films filmed the opening credits of the Talk Show.  It was 100 degrees and I was in a full suit.  Running up and down the subway and speed walking through the farmers market.

I would love to tell you guys what happened but you'll have to wait for the show.  But be sure I'll post the behind the scenes as well as the outtakes once the show starts.

Check out the newest video from Paxen Films

Monty Love Reunion!!

I've been wanting to update the weekend but haven't got around to it yet.   It's been 18 months since the 4 of us played a show together.  Apart from that I think we've only hung out twice in that time.

It's weird how natural it felt.  It was like we just practiced a few days ago.  We basically played whatever songs they yelled out.  The strangest thing was not knowing words to certain songs.  When someone yelled out "All Weapons Hot",  I remembered loving that song, but had no idea how it went

Does this mean we're back together?  Nah.  But we'll prolly play your basement for food.

=jay

ps
I wanted to post more pics but I don't really know how to do it so well on this site.

Monty Love Reunion Show Tonight

So Debo asked me if I would play his nephew's basement show.  I said yes thinking one of the other two would say no.  But they all said yes.

So in 2 hours we're playing for the first time in 18 months.  It won't be pretty but it should be a lot of fun.

I'll post pics tomorrow.

Photo Shoot

So my producer Lou and I went out today to take some press shots.  My original idea was to set up a talk show set somewhere and have an old man laughing hysterical while I had a look of disdain.  Basically it's to show my long lost battle with wanting to be taken serious while being the worlds biggest jackass.

So I put on my suit and we headed out on the town to take some shots. Our first place was at the playground at Clove Lakes Park.  We set up our bootleg desk of folding chairs and my TV tray.  We then started to ask the mothers if they would mind if we took pictures with their kids.  Well, surprising to me, nobody was interested.  I don't know what they think we're gonna do with these pictures.  We had professional business cards and all!  People were basically running away with their kids.

Their was one old man who was willing to let us use his kid.  The kid was perfect.  He was about 6 years old and soaking wet and looked like he was straight out of a Rockwell painting.  But this kid was too shy and ran away from us.  We then took the old guy and he sat with us and took some press photos.  I didn't mean to interview him for real but he had some good stories.

We then took some shots of me just sitting by myself.  It was very funny to be sitting in the middle of the playground with my TV tray in a suit.  I felt like ANTM.

We then headed over to the baseball field where I sat on the pitchers mound. I had Lou take a picture of me on my phone.

The official poster should be up by the weekend.  I'll then post some of the ones we didn't use.

***

I then took my suit and headed over to the building I manage and had to move a giant loveseat from one of the rooms.  I felt like such a man for actually getting it through the door.  I then was able to kick it down the stairs which I thought was going to be really cool so i grabbed my camera.  I'm now able to upload video with my new computer. I thought it was going to be cooler but I'll show it anyways.

Welcome To Mid Evenings With Jay Miller

So most of you know me through some sort of creative output that I've been a part of.  Either my radio show, my band Monty Love, my stand up comedy or my hosting of various Open Mics.  I've been on stage for a long time.

I've never felt comfortable as a singer.  I was never a good comedian because I hated telling the same jokes.  I never fully enjoyed open mic because I hated sitting though bad performances.  But the one thing I did enjoy was talking with people.  Learning about people apart from the usual "what do you do? what kind of music do you like? how's things?"  We all ask these same boring questions.

I want to know more interesting things about people.  I want to know funny stories.  We all want to hear embarrassing details.  We all want to learn real stuff about people.  Normal people with interesting anecdotes.  Interesting people with normal stories.

Combine this with me being able to be on stage and talk about things I shouldn't talk about.  It's strange how I'm an incredibly private person, yet when I get on stage I share brutally personal details.

Combine this with a fantastic cast of incredibly talented people like Lou Russo, Casey Jost, Scott Magri and many others and we have the makings of something very special.

Our first show is only 24 days away.  It seems so soon because it is.  We have so much work to do.  Films to make, guests to book, jokes to write etc.

The more I realize this is really happening the more nervous I get.

I'll post again with more info like when and where the show is.

We already have a few guests booked but I would love to hear who you think we should book.  Please give us ideas.

=jay
